Facilities Management Division
Organization
The Facilities Management Division (FMD) is organized into five operating units
as follows:
- FMD Business Office
- Drain Maintenance
- Downriver Wastewater Treatment Facility
- Industrial Pretreatment
- Pump Stations, CSO Basins and Collection System Maintenance
Major Activities and Descriptions
Business Office: The Business Office is responsible for the financial management and reporting of over $140 million in revenues received annually from our customers. The Business Office is also responsible for the administrative functions of the County drain system, along with customer service, quality and productivity initiatives across the Division. The most aggressive program currently underway is the implementation of the Comprehensive Assessment and Master Plan Project, commonly referred to as C.A.M.P.P.
Drains: The Facilities Management Division is responsible for the maintenance and operation of over 500 established drainage districts extending over 1,500 miles, and all ancillary facilities to the drains.
Wastewater Treatment Facilities: : The unit operates the Downriver Wastewater Treatment Facility, capable of treating 225 million gallons of raw sewage per day (mgd) serving a combined population of approximately 415,200.
Industrial Pretreatment Program: : The Industrial Pretreatment Program monitors the processes and discharges of sanitary wastes from industries in the Downriver System. Its duties include issuing permits, inspections, sampling and lab work, monitoring and enforcement.
Pump Stations, CSO Basins and Collection System Maintenance: This unit maintains and operates a number of Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) pumping stations as well as wastewater conveyance systems that transport waste to the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department (DWSD) facilities. The systems, called the Northeast System and the North Huron Valley/Rouge Valley (NHV/RV) System, serve 18 Wayne County communities and transports flow from Oakland and Macomb Counties to DWSD. The division is responsible for maintaining the interceptors, all associated pump and lift stations, and an extensive flow monitoring system. This group is located at the Downriver Wastewater Treatment Facility located in Wyandotte.
