
Call For Entries Thank you for your interest in Guardian Arts, a program initiated by Wayne County Executive Robert A. Ficano. Guardian Arts was designed to give the independent artist a place to call home—showcasing and promoting the unique talents of Wayne County artists through the display of original fine art, while furthering the majestic appeal of the Guardian Building.
Below you will find program details and highlights as well as exhibition submission information. Please review and complete the packet in its entirety as this will help ensure your entry is reviewed in a timely and efficient manner.
Send images along with the following:
- Corresponding inventory list clearly describing and numbering each piece of work (see attached) —Be sure to include title, piece dimensions, media and price (optional). If piece is not for sale (NFS), please indicate an insurance value.
- Completed entry form and short (one-two paragraph) biography (see attached).
- Self-addressed, (appropriately sized) stamped envelope for return of submitted materials, if desired.
CD:
- Must be submitted in protective sleeve—preferably mailed in a non-bendable sleeve to prevent cracking.
- Please be sure to label CD andProtectiveSleeve with artist name and corresponding inventory list numbers.
Please be aware that Guardian Arts strives to promote the work of local Wayne County artist but maintains the right to refuse any piece that is deemed “inappropriate” for our clientele. Sensitivity to our primary viewing audience (visitors and staff) is a priority. Guardian Arts reserves the right to decline any material. Wayne County reserves the right to reproduce images of exhibited art for publicity purposes.
- Guardian Arts will install and remove all artwork from hanging system.
- 3-D artists may assist the arts coordinator in setting up their exhibit.
- Most exhibits will be displayed for approximately 4 months (3 rotations per year). Artwork must remain up during entire duration of exhibition.
- Wayne County insures all artwork against theft or damage during hanging, exhibit and removal.
(check with Corporation Counsel for additional details) - Back of each piece must be clearly labeled with piece #, artist’s name and title for inventory purposes.
- 2-D Artwork must be delivered framed and ready-to-hang. 3-D work must be delivered in packaging for maximum protection.
Acceptable framing options:
- Nielsen or similar type metal frame with standard 3/8’’ open back channels are preferable.
- All 2-D works must be framed in a secure and professional manner.
WOOD FRAME OR UNFRAMED CANVAS: Artist is responsible for applying security brackets to back of wood framing or stretcher. Guardian Arts will provide these brackets with simple instructions. - Wood frame at least ¾’’ wide to accommodate security hardware brackets.
- Unframed, stretched canvas is acceptable, providing there is a substantial area of wood along the back edges to apply security hardware. Sides/edges of unframed canvas or board must be painted or otherwise finished.
Protective acrylic or Plexiglas is required for artwork such as watercolor, printmaking or other fragile 2-D pieces. Wayne County is not responsible for damage to unprotected surfaces.
- Artists will be notified of acceptance by mail or email.
- Notification will include delivery dates and other instructions.
- A signed agreement and acceptance form will constitute a binding contract to exhibit.
- Artwork may be chosen for display within the subsequent 12 months; artist will be notified well in advance of exhibit dates.
- Please indicate on inventory list and entry form whether artwork is for sale.
- Indicate price on inventory list
- Sales availability will be posted on title block with price displayed. Inquiries will be directed to the Artists personally. Sold pieces will display a small dot on the title block to indicate that a sale has been made.
- Guardian Arts receives NO commission on all artwork sold.
- All artwork must remain on display for duration of the exhibit.
