Over these 80 years we have grown from a few small parcels to more than 5000 acres of parks, open spaces, rivers and lakes, wetlands and forests, and state of the art aquatic centers. Virtually millions of people have enjoyed passive parkways to the challenging golf courses. Canoes and rowboats that were seen in the early days are making a comeback. Nature tours and programs that appreciate the environment have again become a staple of offerings by Wayne County. Wayne County Parks offers a banquet of programs for all ages that run the gamut from seniors to toddlers. It’s all right here, close to home within 25-40 minutes of your home. Passage of the parks millage in 1996 and 2001 made it possible to bring all of these things to you.
