Who
would have thought that the investment of nearly one million dollars
80 years ago would have yielded such benefits. It was 1919 and
the Slocum family wanted to dedicate some of their personal land
to be appreciated, forever.
Over these 80 years we have grown from a few small parcels to
more than 5000 acres of parks, open spaces, rivers and lakes, wetlands
and forests, and state of the art aquatic centers. Virtually millions
of people have enjoyed passive parkways to the challenging golf
courses. Canoes and rowboats that were seen in the early days are
making a comeback. Nature tours and programs that appreciate the
environment have again become a staple of offerings by Wayne County.
Wayne
County Parks offers a banquet of programs for all ages that run
the gamut from seniors to toddlers. Wayne County Parks
has
become a premier family destination with movies, concerts, festivals,
and fun.
Come and enjoy the rivers, lakes and streams of WAYNE COUNTY PARKS.
It’s all right here, close to home within 25-40 minutes of
your home. Passage of the parks millage in 1996 and 2001 made it
possible to bring all of these things to you. Come see what a little
investment can do to improve the quality of life.
