Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Marquise Cromer, 21 (DOB: 06/19/1995), in connection with the non-fatal shooting of a Detroit police sergeant. On September 11, 2016 at approximately 5:00 p.m. in his home located in the 2100 block of Dickerson in Detroit, victim Sterling Cromer was eating at the dining room table. It is alleged that while he was seated, Defendant Marquise Cromer, his son, pointed and fired a shotgun, striking the victim's feet. The victim was able to exit the home and fled to a neighbor's home. It is further alleged that the defendant then pointed the shotgun at his stepmother who, after telling the defendant to stop and the defendant lowered the shotgun, was able to flee the home. *

The defendant fled the home in a van and the Detroit Police Department received a 911 call that he was seen in a restaurant in the 15000 block of East Seven Mile Road. Police officers observed Cromer run from the location to a gas station at Seven Mile Road and Hayes. A sergeant who was pursuing Cromer came around a corner and it is alleged that Cromer shot him in the shoulder. The sergeant was taken to a local hospital and was treated for his wounds. Cromer continued to run, but was apprehended by the police shortly after the shooting incident. It is further alleged that the defendant was uncooperative and resisted the police when he was arrested.

Today Cromer has been charged with: one count of Assault with Intent to Murder; one count of Resisting and Obstructing Police Officer Causing Serious Impairment; three counts of Resisting and Obstructing a Police Officer; one count of Possession of a Short Barreled Shotgun; and Felony Firearm.
