Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Eric Lamont-Allen Turnipseed, 33 (DOB: 12/21/1982), of Detroit, in connection with the fatal car crash that occurred in Wyandotte, MI. It is alleged that on September 20, 2016 at approximately 8:27 p.m., Wyandotte police officers observed Turnipseed, driving his vehicle with a passenger in the front seat, disregard the red light at Fort Street and Ford Avenue and roll into the intersection. Wyandotte police officers attempted to stop the defendant, who is alleged to have failed to stop and sped away. The police officers followed the vehicle and observed the defendant drive through another red light. The defendant stopped his vehicle again and, as the police officers approached the vehicle, again sped off at a high rate of speed. The defendant is alleged to have vehicle lost control, ran off the road and struck a large sign before overturning and coming to a stop.

The defendant driver was taken into custody; the passenger, Joshua Thomas Nance was partially ejected from the vehicle and sustained fatal head injuries. Mr. Nance's date of birth and city of residence are unknown to WCPO at this time.

Turnipseed has been charged with Murder - Second Degree, Fleeing and Eluding - First Degree, Reckless Driving Causing Death and Driving While License Suspended, Causing Death. He was arraigned in 27th District Court. The probable cause conference is scheduled for September 29, 2016 at 9:00 a.m.; the preliminary examination is scheduled for October 6, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge Randy Kalmbach in 27th District Court. Bond was denied.
