Amended Charges for Belleville Man Charged in Sumpter Township Car Crash

On July 29, 2016, Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy charged Charles James Cahill, Jr., 49 (DOB: 06/03/1967), of Belleville, with Operating with a High Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) Causing Serious Injury, Operating While Intoxicated - Third Offense and Driving While License Suspended Causing Serious Injury. He was also charged with the misdemeanor Open Intoxicants in Motor Vehicle.

It is alleged that on July 27, 2016 at approximately 8:20 p.m., Cahill was driving at a high rate of speed in a 55 mph zone, on a suspended license, when he ran into the rear of a van at a stop sign at Martinsville Road and Willis Road in Sumpter Township. The crash seriously injured 12 year-old Victoria Mack on July 27th and ultimately caused her death on July 30, 2016. The defendant was arraigned last week and remains in jail on a $1 million bond.

As a result of the death of Ms. Mack, Cahill's charges have been amended as follows: SecondDegree Murder, Operating with High BAC Causing Death; Operating with a Suspended License Causing Death. The misdemeanor count for Open Alcohol Container in Vehicle remains.

The defendant is expected to be arraigned on the amended charges on his next court date on August 3, 2016 at 10:00 a.m.in 34th District Court in Romulus.

Keith Appling - Former MSU basketball player charged with Carrying a Concealed Weapon in a Motor Vehicle in Detroit. The defendant was arraigned on the information before Judge David Groner and a disposition conference is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. on August 12, 2016 at 9:00 a.m.

As a result of the death of Ms. Mack, Cahill's charges have been amended as follows: SecondDegree Murder; Operating with High BAC Causing Death; Operating with a Suspended License Causing Death. The misdemeanor count for Open Alcohol Container in Vehicle remains.

The defendant was arraigned this morning before Judge Tina Brooks-Green in 34th District Court and his $1 million dollar bond was revoked and he was remanded to jail. The probable cause conference is scheduled for August 17, 2016 at 9:05 a.m. before Judge Brooks-Green. The preliminary examination is scheduled for August 24, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. before Judge David Parrott.

Marcus Hightower - Defendant charged in the February 2016 deaths of Heidi Walker and her fouryear-old daughter, who was the subject of an Amber Alert. The preliminary examination has been completed and Hightower has been bound over for trial. The AOI is scheduled for August 10, 2016 at 9:00 a.m.

Dwuan Parkman - Defendant charged in the June 2016 criminal sexual assault of a flight attendant at Metro Airport. The preliminary examination was conducted and the defendant has been bound over for trial. The AOI is scheduled for August 10, 2016 at 9:00 a.m.

Mother Charged in the Death of Her Three-Year-Old Son

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Deanna Shanta Minor, 28 (DOB: 2/7/88), of Detroit, in connection with the death of her three-year-old son Aaron Minor. On Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at approximately 2:40 p.m., Detroit police officers were called to an apartment in the 4400 block of Trumbull because a dead child was in the location. The police observed the decomposed remains of Aaron Minor in a bed. An extensive investigation was conducted in this case and the facts and evidence in the case will be presented at the preliminary examination.

Defendant Minor was arrested today on the following charges: Felony Murder (child abuse), Murder Second Degree, Child Abuse - First Degree, Child Abuse - Second Degree and Failure to Report a Dead Body. The defendant was arraigned in 36th District Court this morning. The probable cause conference is scheduled for August 11, 2016 at 8:30 a.m.; the preliminary examination is scheduled for August 16, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. Both hearings are before Judge Shannon Holmes in 36th District Court.

Charles Cox - Defendant who killed Detroit musician Anthony Tolson was sentenced today to life without parole on First Degree Felony Murder, and other charges including a five-year consecutive sentence on the Felony Firearm Second Offense. Co-defendant Devan Williams pled guilty to Second Degree Murder and Felony Firearm mid-trial today. His sentencing date is 8/24/16.

Former Wayne County Treasurer's Office Employee To Be Arraigned Today in 36th District Court in Misdemeanor Sexual Assault Cases

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Dennis Patterson, 50 (1/17/66), of Detroit in connection with three separate allegations of Criminal Sexual Conduct - Fourth Degree. Patterson was employed -more- 4 as a mail clerk with the Wayne County Treasurer's Office (WCTO) for approximately 16 years until June 20, 2016.

April 2016 Allegation in Detroit

On April 20, 2016, at 9:00 a.m. Patterson was working in the Treasurer's Office located in 400 Monroe Street in Detroit when it is alleged that he touched of a 44-year-old female WCTO employee in an inappropriate way while she was walking down a hallway. The incident was reported to the woman's supervisor. He has been charged with Criminal Sexual Conduct Fourth Degree, a two year misdemeanor. He was arraigned today and received a $5000/10% bond today in 36th District Court. His probable cause hearing is on August 11, 2016 at 8:30 a.m. and his preliminary examination is on August 18, 2016 at 9:00 a.m., both before Judge Kenneth King. 

September 2015 Allegation in Detroit

In September 2015 Patterson was working in the Treasurer's Office located in 400 Monroe Street in Detroit when it is alleged that he touched of a 49-year-old female WCTO employee in an inappropriate way while she was working in the office. The incident was reported to the woman's supervisor. He has been charged with Criminal Sexual Conduct Fourth Degree, a two year misdemeanor. He was arraigned in 36th District Court today and received a $5000/10% bond today. He was arraigned today and received a $5000/10% bond today in 36th District Court. His probable cause hearing is on August 11, 2016 at 8:30 a.m. and his preliminary examination is on August 18, 2016 at 9:00 a.m., both before Judge Kenneth King.

June 2016 Allegation in Westland

On June 18, 2016 Patterson was at the Nankin Mills area of Hines Park for a senior citizen event with other employees of the WCTO. At noon on the same day Patterson is alleged to have inappropriately touched a 45-year-old female WCTO employee while they were seated at a table in an information booth. The incident was reported to the woman's supervisor. He has been charged with Criminal Sexual Conduct Fourth Degree, a two year misdemeanor. He was arraigned in 18th District Court in Westland, on Wednesday August 3, 2016 and received a $50,000 cash/surety bond. His probable cause hearing is on August 11, 2016 at 8:30 a.m. before Judge Sandra Cicerelli, and his preliminary examination is on August 18, 2016 at 8:30 a.m. before Judge Mark McConnell.

His preliminary examination is scheduled for Friday, August 5, 2016, before 36th District Court Judge Deborah Lewis Langston and will be held in the Frank Murphy Hall of Justice.

Charles Pugh -Today the Former Detroit City Council President bound over as charged on three counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct (CSC) First Degree, and bound over as charged on two counts of CSC Third Degree. A third count of CSC Third Degree was dismissed. His Arraignment on the Information in Circuit Court is scheduled for Friday, August 12, 2016, at 9:00 a.m. in the Frank Murphy Hall of Justice. The judge lowered Pugh's bond from a $500,000 to $150,000 cash/surety with a GPS tether. She also ordered him to forfeit his passport and driver's license if he posts bond, and ordered him to have no contact with males under the age of 16 years old.
