Executive Ficano attends Detroit Chamber of Commerce Mackinac Policy Conference
Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano and Detroit Mayor David Bing joined forces to offer a tax incentive to General Motors Corp, intended to keep the bankrupt automaker headquartered in Detroit. In less than 12 hours inside the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, the two elected leaders and members of their administrations discussed options. They offered the ailing company a Renaissance Zone. Executive Ficano made his rounds on the island discussing vital issues that affect the citizens of Wayne County and this region, including the needed renovation and expansion of Cobo Hall, the Aerotropolis development and, of course, the future of General Motors. More than 1,000 public officials and business leaders made their way to the 29th Mackinac Policy Conference this year.
