Effort to distribute school supplies intensifies as end of summer draws closer Detroit - County Executive Robert Ficano continued efforts to distribute school supplies and backpacks before the semester begins early next month.
Youngsters in three Detroit locations received backpacks this week. Nearly 2,000 backpacks will be distributed countywide by mid-September. The backpack program is intended to assist families with youngsters entering school or in early elementary. The youngsters are identified by local organizations working in partnership with Wayne County.
