2007 Events --> September 27, 2007 Wayne Co. recognizes diverse and vibrant group
Detroit — Wayne County is helping celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, recognized nationally through Oct. 15.
Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano visited Latino Family Services in southwest Detroit today, welcoming the event and praising this vibrant corner of the city. Wayne County, the nation's 11th most populated, is home to the largest Hispanic community in Michigan.
More than 20 years ago, the United States Congress declared Sept. 15 through Oct. 15 as Hispanic Heritage Month. Wayne County’s program to recognize the occasion this year focuses on Latino businesses: "Recognizing their Success, Acknowledging their Economic Importance and Honoring Hispanics for their Cultural Contributions."
The celebration program at Latino Family Services included Hispanic food, cultural presentations and entertainment.
