Wayne County a member of the Silver Cup Award team

Detroit – Wayne County’s Veterans’ Affairs division is part of a team that has earned the coveted Adjutant General’s Quality Cup Award (silver).

The 2006 award has been presented to the team of Wayne County Veterans’ Affairs, the Michigan Veterans Trust Fund and the Michigan Veterans Trust Fund County Committee. The Adjutant General commands the Michigan National Guard and other statewide services/programs. The team picked up the Quality Cup (silver) Award for combining state and county services to veterans and for reducing costs. Wayne County’s new One Stop office was proclaimed a standard-bearer in the Michigan Department of Military and Veterans Affairs.

One Stop offers qualified veterans a number of state and county services, including state Department of Labor and Economic Growth staff. Wayne County has nearly 200,000 military veterans. More than 2,000 annually receive county veteran services.

Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano had wanted veteran services streamlined, prompting the One Stop launch. Wayne County Veterans’ Affairs Director Joseph Howard said: “This (Quality Cup) serves as an inspiration for other work teams and reminds us significant achievements can be made when we pool our talents and resources.” Wayne County Veterans’ Affairs is partly funded by state Emergency Grant Program and the county’s Soldiers & Sailors Relief Fund.

At the June (2007) meeting of the Michigan Veterans Trust Fund (MVTF) Board of Trustees, Brig. Gen. Carol Ann Fausone, Assistant Adjutant General for Veterans Affairs on behalf of Major General Thomas G. Cutler, presented the award. The awardees include Joseph Howard and Pamela Teague of the Wayne County Veterans’ Affairs division, Elmer Duff (American Legion), Laurence Wilson (AMVETS), Allen Thomas (Disabled American Veterans), William Shepheard (VFW) of the Wayne County Veterans Trust Fund committee and Anne Dutcher and Mary Kay Robinson of the Veterans Trust Fund state office.

The Adjutant General's Quality Cup Award was established in September 1998 to formally recognize team efforts which improve the quality of services provided by the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs.

Wayne County One Stop is located at 28 W. Adams. For more information, call (313) 224-5045 or visit www.waynecounty.com
