Westland – Visitors to the first Wayne County Transportation Education Expo were treated to a variety of exhibits from universities, local schools and private industry. Included were a car engineered by a Livonia high-school student that ran on vegetable oil, a robot built by Detroit students that navigated through an obstacle course, a Ford Motor Co. hybrid auto – fuel cell/battery powered – and several classic cars. The event was held May 18 near Nankin Mills in Westland to help observe National Transportation Week. Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano said next year’s event will be larger and include more student exhibits.
