Wayne County signs papers, takes ownership of Guardian

Detroit – Following several months of negotiations, Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano today signed papers giving Wayne County ownership of the 40-story Guardian building and other nearby properties in Detroit. The total price tag is more than $30 million. A timeline and which county workers would occupy the Guardian has not been released.

Joining the county executive for the brief closing ceremony were members of the Wayne County Board of Commissioners, former principals in the management/ownership group of the Guardian and others closely involved in closing the deal.

The county executive had long pushed the Guardian deal as a way to unify county employees now spread among several offices, including the Old Wayne County Building, where 500 of the county's 5,000 employees work in less than 120,000 square feet of space.
