Wayne County takes delivery of special OPS Trucks

Wayne County — Today, Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano handed over the keys to special response vehicles to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team (SRT) and Marine Unit Dive Team and the Downriver Mutual SWAT team. The vehicles were purchased with federal funds from the 2005 Urban Area Security Imitative (UASI) grant through the Department of Homeland Security. The three vehicles cost $690,750.

“These vehicles will be used as special response vehicles for the coordination of activities for the SWAT and Dive teams,” said County Executive Ficano. “Managing a response situation using new technology and giving first responders the proper resources to maximize their effectiveness are vital.”

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office received two of the vehicles the Sheriff says make his Office much more prepared for critical incidents.

“The new tactical vehicles the County Executive has helped us add to our fleet are the ones you hope you don’t have to use, but sure are glad you have them when you need them,” said Sheriff Warren C. Evans.  “Whether it’s a barricaded gunman or an underwater search and rescue, our officers must have the tools they need to respond quickly and to safely handle a situation for extended periods of time.”

The third vehicle was given to the Downriver Mutual SWAT team.

The three vehicles include:
