Wayne Babies…Live, Learn & Play! – A New Resource Guide Wayne County Event Rolls Out Resource Guide and Early Learning Initiative
for County Parents, Caregivers
The Wayne County Department of Health and Human Services will present its new Wayne Babies…Live, Learn & Play!Childcare Resource Guide for parents and caregivers at a breakfast event, 9 to 11 a.m., Friday, Nov. 21, at the Wayne Metropolitan Community Action Agency Early Childhood Center, 12031 Mitchell, one block east of Joseph Campau, in Hamtramck.
The Resource Guide is part of a new Wayne County initiativecalled Wayne Babies…Live, Learn & Play! specifically developed for expectant parents, parents, caregivers and guardians. The purpose of the initiative is to help provide a well-rounded environment for every child’s early growth and development from the prenatal stage to age five.
Wayne County Executive Robert A. Ficano will speak at the event to discuss Wayne County’s commitment to early childhood development through the introduction of the Wayne Babies…Live, Learn & Play! Initiative.
“Wayne County wants its children, their parents or caregivers, to have the best possible chances for future life success as individuals, and as families,” he said. “The Wayne Babies…Live, Learn and Play! Initiative is designed to make a positive future impact.”
Edith Killins, director of Wayne County’s Health and Human Services Department, said:
“The Resource Guide will provide valuable information, materials and learning activities to give Wayne County’s infants and young children a healthy start in life.”
The Resource Guide contains important prenatal, infant, toddler and preschool childcare information and a directory of services available in Wayne County, including health services, childcare education, physical health services, mental health, emergency assistance and more. Key topics such as the increased incidence of diabetes and obesity among youngsters; detecting increased lead exposure in children through testing; the importance of immunizations, and preventive health measures are discussed, among many other key wellness-related subjects.
Participating qualifying caregivers will also receive a Keepsake Record Book to document their child’s birth and medical information.
The user-friendly Resource Guide also provides residents with opportunities to receive discounts on goods and services from local partnering businesses as incentives for completing Live, Learn & Play! program goals.
The Wayne Babies…Live, Learn & Play! Resource Initiative is open to eligible Wayne County expectant parents, parents, guardians and caregivers with children up to age five, at no charge.
