The Wayne County Commission's Committee on Ways and Means is holding a series of hearings on the county's proposed $1.54 billion budget for the 2015-16 fiscal year, which starts Oct. 1. Click here for a schedule. To view a copy of the proposed budget, click here.

The Wayne County Commission and its employees are the legislative branch of county government. The chief role of the commission is to adopt a budget and enact ordinances. The commission also approves contracts, appointments and rules. The money is spent and ordinances are enforced through the administrative branch. This fiscal year's $1.68 billion budget runs the county operations that serves the more than 1.8 million people living in Wayne County.


All Wayne County Commission meetings, as well as the budget sessions, are open to the public. The commission meets on the first and the third Thursday of the month at 10:00 a.m. in its chambers on the mezzanine level of the Guardian Building, 500 Griswold, Detroit. ETHICS ORDINANCE: The Wayne County Commission approved Wayne County's first Ethics Ordinance in 2012 and amended it on December 18, 2014. Click here to read the ordinance.
