City of Garden City

The City of Garden City is centrally located in Wayne County, Michigan. The city is 8 miles due West of Detroit on M-153. Major transportation corridors are within easy access of the city. I-96 is 5 miles north, I-94 [Metro Airport] is 7 miles south, and I-275 is 7 miles west.

Garden City was originally planned in the 1920's. Developers tabbed Garden City as "The Sun Parlor of Detroit." Farms were subdivided into one acre home sites to provide enough space for homes and small scale farming.

Here a person could raise a family, have a farm, and still be within a short commute of factories in and around Detroit.

Currently, Garden City is largely developed, predominately with single-family residential homes. Along with the rest of Wayne County, Garden City is experiencing a housing boom. Three new subdivisions are currently under construction. New home construction and existing home renovations are at their highest levels in thirty years.

The community is transcended by State route M-153. Retail businesses crowd the M-153 corridor making it the major business district for the City. Downtown Garden City is located at the intersection of M-153 and Middlebelt Road, which is the busiest intersection in Wayne County. Hoping to capitalize on the traffic volume in downtown Garden City, extensive renovations are planned. A 60 acre industrial park is located in the Northwest section of the City, consisting of small, medium, and large businesses.
