City of Grosse Pointe Woods

The City of Grosse Pointe Woods is a prosperous community with its own special appeal.

Grosse Pointe Woods was originally incorporated in 1927 and was known as the Village of Lochmoor. In 1939, the village of Lochmoor became the Village of Grosse Pointe Woods and on December 11, 1950, it was incorporated as the City of Grosse Pointe Woods, a "Home Rule City." The city covers an area of 328 square miles.  

The largest of the municipal parks, and the pride of the community, is Lake Front Park. It is located on East Jefferson and comprises 55 acres of green which borders Lake St. Clair and boasts the second largest outdoor swimming complex in the Midwest!

A number of construction projects have recently developed at Lake Front Park including a new wooden boardwalk along the shoreline , a retractable pedestrian bridge and a new playscape area.

In accordance with the city's 1997 Recreation Bond, current park projects under construction include: a new pool filter and heating system, pool lights, baby pool, and entrance and exit fencing and gate.  Additional bond projects are in the planning phase for construction.
