Located
in the Detroit River in the southern part of Wayne County, Grosse
Ile Township is comprised of 14 Islands. It takes its name from
the largest island which is about 10 miles long and two miles
wide.
Grosse Ile is
considered a residential community of beautiful homes and large
estates.
Commercial needs
of the community are served by a few local businesses.
Some industrial
activity is present on the south end of the main island adjacent
to the Grosse Ile Municipal Airport.
Access to the
island is via two bridges; one is county-owned and free while
the other is a privately-owned toll bridge.
County roads
on the mainland side connect with major state and federal roads
providing access to the region.
