About Wayne County

Rockwood

Rockwood is the southernmost city in Wayne County lying between the industrial centers of Detroit and Toledo, Ohio. The Huron River forms the City's southern boundary and provides a beautiful scenic endowment to the community.

Interstate 75 Freeway enters Wayne County in Rockwood, paralleling Fort Road [M-85] and Conrail rail facilities.

Industrial development consists of Rockwood Commerce Park, a 100 acre industrial park which is presently 35% complete and contains Penstone Inc., a major automotive supplier. Benckiser Products also is an important employer.

U.S. Silica has extensive sandmining operations south of Huron River Drive. Residential development is still relatively light but has been growing due to its natural features and highway access.

Commercial activities are concentrated at the intersection of Fort Road and Huron River Drive.
