The City of Southgate
is located among the downriver communities of Wayne County. It is
bounded by Fort Road [M-85] on the east and Allen Road on the west.
The Interstate 75 Freeway crosses the northwest corner of the City.
A Conrail line parallels I-75.
The City is principally a residential community with some industrial
development mainly in the vicinity of I-75 and Northline Road.
Commercial development is found mainly along Eureka Road between
Allen and Fort Roads with many national chain stores represented
which attract customers from the surrounding communities.
Mixed commercial and office development is also located
along Fort Road. Many of the residents are employed in nearby auto
manufacturing, steel making, and chemical processing industries.
