Read completely before circulating the petition.
In the space provided on the petition, be sure to indicate, as best possible, the nature of the work that is required. The information on the front side of the petition must be completed before circulating it for signature. To avoid delays, please comply with the following instruction:
- All names are to be signed in ink, exactly as they appear on legal documents. Married women are to sign "Mary Jones," not "Mrs. John Jones".
- Do not sign name more than once.
- Any five (5) (or at least 50% of the property owners, if less than 5) whose land is liable for an assessment due to benefits from this project may sign the petition. Their names must appear in the County records as owners of the affected property.
- Where two or more people have an interest in one parcel of land, any or all are eligible to sign the petition. However, collectively the names would be treated as one (1) of the five (5) names references above.
- Use the space provided to fill in the legal description of property. A legal description consists of the lot number and complete name of subdivision or parcel number as it appears on the tax bill. Provide the name of city, township or village in which property is located. Legal descriptions appear on deeds or abstracts, as well as on tax receipts. House numbers are not legal descriptions and will not be accepted as such.
- The circulator must sign and date the Affidavit of Circulation in the presence of a Notary Public after obtaining the minimum number of signatures.
- Return the petition to Henry Ruff Field Office, 3501 Henry Ruff Road, Westland, MI 48186, c/o Field Operations Manager. No field work will be performed until a properly executed petition is filed and processed.
- If you need assistance, please contact Andrew Keller, Wayne County Facilities Management Division, (734) 326-7305.
