Department of Public Services
The Department of Public Services (DPS) comprises six divisions dedicated to overseeing, maintaining and operating the county's unique assets and complex infrastructure. DPS is one of the largest departments in Wayne County government employing over 600 personnel with an annual budget of $155 million. The divisions in DPS include: Administration; Buildings; Engineering; Equipment; Parks and Recreation; and Roads. These divisions provide a wide range of services, among them are: maintaining and improving roads, bridges and storm sewers; removing snow from more than 2,000 miles of roads; maintaining approximately 100,000 traffic signs and 1,490 traffic signals; operating and maintaining county-owned and -operated buildings; tracking and inventorying equipment and vehicles; issuing construction permits; and maintaining and operating 12 parks and two public golf courses.
