The Department of Public Services oversees a world-class infrastructure network of one of the nation's largest counties and its 2 million plus residents and countless visitors.  The Department is committed to maintaining and improving our multi-billion dollar inventory of roads, buildings and land for the benefit of our public.

Wayne County's Department of Public Services (DPS) was formed as the succeeding agency to the Wayne County Road Commission. DPS manages the Divisions of Administration, Buildings, Engineering, Equipment, Parks and Roads.

Mission

The central mission of the Wayne County Department of Public Services is to maximize the quality of life for its residents and enhance the economic health of the County to the extent that these are affected by the various DPS Divisions.

There are six major divisions within the Department of Public Services.

  • The Administrative Division is responsible for central control and coordination of the operations of the other five divisions. Processing of grants, contracts, personnel and departmental fiscal control.
     
  • The Buildings Division is responsible for efficiently maintaining, operating and managing all Wayne County General Fund Buildings.
     
  • The Engineering Division is responsible for providing engineering and technical services as necessary to support the programs and activities of Parks and Roads.
  • The Equipment Division provides support services for Wayne County's large fleet of automotive and heavy equipment vehicles. The Inventory unit of Equipment stocks over 5,000 items from vehicle repair parts to road aggregate to office supplies for all County departments.
     
  • The Parks Division is responsible for protecting, maintaining and programming park areas for recreation and leisure activities for the families and citizens of Wayne County.
  • The Roads Division is responsible for maintenance of the road system of approximately 1,559 County primary and local roadways and 462 miles of State trunk lines and freeways.
