Wayne County Department of Public Services
is the succeeding agency to the
Wayne County Road Commission for Wayne County, Michigan
This division is responsible for providing engineering and technical services to support the programs and activities of the Department of Public Services. Responsible for coordinating road improvement projects between the County, cities and townships and the Michigan Department of Transportation, including road improvement requests originating from cities and townships; conducting meetings with representatives of public and private agencies regarding projects of mutual interest; preparing plans, specifications and bidding documents for road, bridge, building, culvert and other public improvement projects which fall within DPS responsibility; and exercising general supervision over all construction to ensure compliance with plans and specifications.
To maintain the road system of approximately 1,559 County primary and local roadways and 462 miles of State trunklines and freeways so as to protect and extend its useful life and to keep it reasonably safe for public travel.
