This division is responsible for providing engineering
and technical services to support the programs and activities
of the
Department
of Public
Services.
Responsible for coordinating road improvement
projects between the County, cities and townships and the
Michigan Department of Transportation, including road improvement
requests
originating from cities and townships; conducting meetings
with representatives of public and private agencies regarding projects
of mutual interest; preparing plans, specifications and bidding
documents for road, bridge, building, culvert and other public
improvement projects which fall within DPS responsibility;
and
exercising general supervision over all construction to ensure
compliance with plans and specifications.

- Successfully secured obligation of Fiscal Year 2004 Federal-aided
and State-aided funding for 11 road projects
- Completed plans, specification and bidding documents for 34 projects
including: 25 federal/state aid road projects, 6 county road projects,
2 county maintenance contracts and 1 bicycle path project
- Submitted 9 projects worth over $100 million to our congressional
lobbyists for consideration in the next federal highway bill
- Inspected and administered 15 road improvement contracts, total
bid amount of $16,260,000
- Participated with the Roads Division in evaluating the use of
"Cold In Place Recycling" as an alternative means of bituminous
resurfacing
