On September 5, 2017, Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy charged Artese Deshaun Davis, 23 (DOB: 04/12/1994), of Detroit, with Resisting and Obstructing a Police Officer, Escape from Lawful Custody, and Larceny (Stealing Police Handcuffs)*.

On September 2, 2017 at 11:26 p.m., it is alleged that Davis was observed by Detroit Police officers in his car driving at a high rate of speed in the area of Vaughn and Joy Road. The police stopped and handcuffed Davis and, while they were attempting to place him in the police car, it is alleged that he escaped on foot. On September 3, 2017, an investigation by DPD led to the arrest of the defendant in the 2500 block of Kendal in Detroit.

Davis was arraigned in 36th District Court and received a $30,000/10% bond. His probable cause hearing was scheduled for September 12, 2017 at 8:30 a.m. before 36th District Court Judge Dana Hathaway. At the probable cause conference, the defendant pled guilty to Attempted Resisting and Obstructing a Police Officer and Escape from Lawful Custody. The Larceny count was dismissed. The plea was accepted and the case was bound over to Third Circuit Court for sentencing on September 26, 2017 before Third Circuit Court Judge Dana Hathaway.
