Prosecutor Kym Worthy charged Terrell Carter, 28 (DOB: 03/25/1989), of Westland, in connection with the assault of Brandon Putnam, 23, of Detroit in Greektown. On April 16, 2017 at approximately 1:00 a.m., on Monroe and St. Antoine Streets, it is alleged that a friend of Putnam’s got into a verbal argument with a group of approximately eight men. The argument became physical and another male friend of Putnam’s was the assaulted by the group of men. When Putnam went to aid his friend, the group of men began to violently beat Putnam while he was on the ground. In addition to the beating, Putnam’s personal property was stolen. It is alleged that Carter participated in the beating and theft of Putnam. Putnam is currently being treated in a local hospital for injuries he sustained during the attack.

Carter is charged with: Unarmed Robbery, Assault with Intent to Murder, Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm and Felonious Assault. Today WCPO was informed that the defendant was arrested and arraigned yesterday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. before Magistrate Bari Blake Wood. The probable cause conference is scheduled for May 4, 2017 at 8:30 a.m.; the preliminary examination is scheduled for May 11, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge Deborah Lewis Langston in 36th District Court. Defendant Carter also received a $5 million cash/surety bond. He is the fourth defendant to be charged in connection with this case.
