Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Timothy Bernard Hawkins, 45 (DOB: 7/8/1971), of Highland Park, in connection with the murder of Avril D. Taylor, 48, of Detroit. On January 7, 2017 at approximately 1:10 p.m., the Detroit Police were called to a home in the 400 block of West Goldengate Street in Detroit. When they arrived at the scene, the lifeless body of Ms. Taylor was observed on the floor in the basement. It is alleged that Hawkins fatally struck Ms. Taylor in the head and took personal property from her home. The investigation of the case led to the arrest of the defendant shortly after he was observed driving Ms. Taylor’s car at Tuxedo and Second Street in Detroit.

Hawkins has been charged with First Degree Premeditated Murder and Felony Murder*. He was arraigned this afternoon in 36th District Court. The probable cause conference is scheduled for January 26, 2017 at 8:30 a.m.; the preliminary examination is scheduled for February 2, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. Both hearings are before Judge Jefferson in 36th District Court.

*The charges are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
