Eastpointe Man Charged with Highland Park Mayor Shooting Case

Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy has charged Jair A. Harris, 25 (8/12/88), of Eastpointe in connection with the non-fatal shooting of Highland Park Mayor Deandre L. Windon, 47. On November 17, 2013, at approximately 1:53 a.m. at the Key Club located in the 1400 block of Franklin in Detroit, there was a disturbance and as security staff were having patrons leave the club, it is alleged that Harris produced a handgun that discharged, striking Mayor Windom in the leg. Mayor Windom was taken to a local hospital where he was treated for a gunshot wound.

Harris has been charged with three counts of Felonious Assault, one count of Carrying a Concealed Weapon, one count of Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon with Intent, one count of Felon in Possession of a Firearm, one count of Felony Firearm and the misdemeanor Careless Discharged of a Firearm Causing Injury.

Harris is expected to be arraigned on Wednesday, November 27, 2013 in 36th District Court

Robert Messer - Northville man charged in connection with the sexual assault of a 15-year-old girl. This case was up for arraignment on the information today before Judge Edward Ewell. The final conference is scheduled for January 7, 2014 and a jury trial is scheduled for March 24, 2014. There was no change in the defendant's bond.

Darnell Cheatham - Charged with the July 24, 2011 homicide of Mariah Smith. Cheatham was bound over on Murder 1 (premeditated), Murder 1 (felony), child abuse first, torture, arson and mutilation of a body. The arraignment held on December 3, 2013 in Wayne County Circuit Court. Cheatham remains in jail without bond.

Jair A. Harris - Harris will not be arraigned this afternoon. He was arraigned this morning and received a $250,000 cash/surety bond. His preliminary examination will be held on December 9, 2013 before Judge Michael Wagner. Please contact the Detroit Police for a photograph of the defendant.
