Noel Night Shooting Juvenile Suspect - WCPO has paperwork from The Detroit Police Department for a 16-year-old juvenile suspect. By statute WCPO will be taking the 5 day adjournment period before making a decision. See MCL764.1f. MCR 3.935(A)(3)(a) A decision will be made by the morning of Saturday, December 9, 2018.

Sixteen-Year-Old Male Charged in Noel Night Shootings

Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy has charged Calvin Stephens, 16 (DOB:10/14/2001), of Detroit in connection with the Noel Night shootings that injured for four Detroit teens. On Saturday, December 2, 2017 at approximately 7:45 p.m. near the Detroit Institute of Arts at Farnsworth and John R Streets it is alleged that Stephens while armed with a hand gun and shot a three Detroit male teens ages 14, 16 and 19 and shot a 17-year-old female teen. The four victims received treatment in local hospitals for their injuries. Investigation by the Detroit Police Department (DPD) led to the arrest of Stephens on December 3, 2017. He is currently being held at the Juvenile Detention Facility.

On Monday, December 4, 2017, WCPO received paperwork from DPD for Stephens and elected to take the statutory five-day adjournment before making a decision. See MCL764.1f. MCR 3.935(A)(3)(a).
Today Stephens has been charged with four counts of Assault with Intent to Murder and one count of Felony Firearm.* He will be adult designated which means that upon conviction that the judge will have the option to sentence Stephens as a juvenile, as an adult, or to give a blended juvenile and adult sentence.

Stephens is expected to have his pre-hearing tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. at the Juvenile Detention Facility located at 1326 St Antoine St. in Detroit.

*The charges are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

Raymond Durham - Charged in the homicide case of Sgt. Collin Rose and the non-fatal shootings of two DPD officers. Today the motion hearing was adjourned at the request of the court. The adjourned date is December 12, 2017 before Judge Kenneth King.

Floyd Galloway - Defendant charged in connection with the assault of a 28-year-old woman in Hines Park on September 4, 2016. Today he was sentenced to 16-35 years in MDOC on the Kidnapping charge and 6.5-10 years on the Assault w/ Intent to Commit CSC Penetration and the Assault by Strangulation charges to run concurrently. Galloway was also sentenced to lifetime sex offender registration pursuant to SORA.

Mother and Friend Charged in Fatal Shooting of Three-Year-Old Child

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Demetrius Peals, 22 (DOB:10/03/1995) and Kinesha Boyd, 20 (DOB: 09/19/1997) both of Detroit in connection with the fatal shooting of Boyd's three-year-old son Kyrei Boyd. On December 6, 2017 at 7:20 p.m., medics were called to an apartment shared by Boyd and Peals to transport Boyd's son for treatment for a gunshot wound to the face. Kyrei was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. Investigation by the Detroit Police Department developed Peals and Boyd as suspects in the fatal shooting of the child .

On December 6, 2017, it is alleged that Peal left a loaded firearm accessible to Kyrei while the child was in his care and a resident of his household. The child found the gun and fatally shot himself. It is further alleged that Peals knowingly and intentionally tampered with evidence. On the same day, it is also alleged that Boyd failed to provide a safe environment for her child and permitted Peals, a person known to carry a gun in the home, to have access to her child. She also is alleged to have knowingly given the police a false or misleading statement regarding the death of her child. More complete facts in the case will be introduced as evidence at the preliminary examination.
