Date change for Marquis Cromer's Sentence Hearing from 2/9/18 until 2/15/18 at 12:00 noon

Marquis Cromer - Defendant charged in September, 2016 homicide of DPD Officer Kenneth Steil. On January 25, 2018 the defendant pleaded No Contest- Guilty but Mentally Ill to Second Degree Murder with a sentence agreement of 38 to 75 years and two years consecutive for Felony Firearm. (Case number 17-3973) He pleaded No Contest - Guilty but Mentally Ill to Assault with Intent to Murder and Felony Firearm with a with a sentence agreement of five to ten years concurrent. (Case Number 17-3971) Cromer also pleaded No Contest- Guilty but Mentally Ill to Carjacking and Felony Firearm with a sentence agreement for 20 to 30 years concurrent. (Case number 17-392). Upon sentencing, the defendant will be incarcerated in the Michigan Department of Corrections. Cromer's sentence hearing has been adjourned by the court from February 9, 2018 until February 15, 2018 at noon.

Detroit Dad Charged in Infant's Death

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Thomas Smith, 38, (DOB: 03/26/1979), of Detroit, in connection with the death of his two-year-old infant daughter. On February 11, 2018, Detroit Police officers responded to a 911 call to a residence in the 14000 block of Corbett Street in Detroit. It is alleged that the defendant left the toddler in the care of her seven-year-old brother, without adult supervision. It is further alleged that when the defendant returned home, the infant girl was lying at the bottom of stairs. 911 was called and medics responded to the location. The child was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Smith has been charged with Child Abuse Second Degree*. The defendant was arraigned on the warrant on February 14, 2018 before 36th District Court Magistrate Dawn White. The probable cause conference is scheduled for February 21, 2018 at 8:30 a.m.; the preliminary examination is scheduled for February 27, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. Both hearings are before Judge Deborah Lewis Langston in 36th District Court. The defendant received a $100,000/10% bond.

Three Detroiters Charged in Human Trafficking of a Minor

Today Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Eric Alexander Brown, 33 (DOB: 09/09/1984), Brian Deshawn Ash, 26 (DOB: 08/30/1991) and Grace Nyirahabimana, 18, (DOB: 01/01/2000), all of Detroit, in connection with the human trafficking of a minor victim.

The minor is a 14-year-old female victim from Detroit. It is alleged that the three defendants acted together, using the victim in human trafficking in Detroit between January 16, 2018 and January 26, 2018. More detailed facts will be introduced as evidence at the preliminary examination. Investigation by the Detroit Police Department led to the arrest of the defendants.

All three defendants were arraigned on the warrant this morning in 36th District Court. The probable cause conferences for all defendants are scheduled for February 21, 2018 at 8:30 a.m.; the preliminary examinations are scheduled for February 26, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge Lydia Nance-Adams in 36th District Court. Defendant Brown was remanded; Defendant Ash received a $1 Million cash/surety bond; Defendant Nyirahabimana received a $250,000 cash/surety bond.
