Dearborn Heights Man Charged in Fatal Gas Station Shooting

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Rami Ali Jaber, 26, (DOB: 10/01/1991) of Dearborn Heights, Michigan in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred at a gas station on West McNichols in Detroit.

On May 13, 2018 at approximately 3:54 p.m., Detroit police were dispatched to a Citgo gas station located in the 17800 block of West McNichols in Detroit. Upon arrival, the officers observed medics on the scene, who transported the victim, Derek Leon Roberts, 34, of Detroit, to a local hospital for treatment, where he was pronounced dead from his injuries.

It is alleged that the victim approached the counter to make a purchase and a disturbance occurred between the victim and the defendant. It is further alleged the defendant fired a handgun, fatally striking the victim. The defendant was arrested at the scene. The facts and evidence in the case will be presented in court at the preliminary examination.

Jaber has been charged with First Degree Murder and Felony Firearm*. Jaber was arraigned at 10:30 a.m. this morning before 36^th District Court Magistrate Millicent Sherman. The probable cause conference is scheduled for May 29, 2018 at 8:30 a.m.; the preliminary examination is scheduled for June 5, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. Both hearings are before Judge Lydia Nance Adams in 36^th District Court. The defendant was remanded to jail.

Dearborn Defendant Majed Wazni Charged in Seven More CSC Cases

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Majed (Mark) Mohamad Wazni, 57 (DOB: 12/10/1960), of Dearborn, with charges of Criminal Sexual Conduct (CSC) - Fourth Degree involving adult male victims in seven separate incidents that occurred in the 20200 block of Middlebelt in Livonia. In April 2018 Wazni was charged with CSC -Fourth Degree in two other incidents. In all of the cases it is alleged that the defendant inappropriately touched the men while they were being fitted for their work uniforms.

Wazni was arraigned this morning on all seven cases before 16^th District Court Magistrate Barbara J. Scherr. He posted his $5000/10% bond in seven new misdemeanor cases. The probable cause conferences are scheduled for May 31, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. before Judge Sean Kavanagh in 16^th District Court. No preliminary exam dates were scheduled at this time.
