Pontiac Man Charged in Fatal Car Crash

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Jarod Najee Richardson, 29, (DOB: 06/08/1988), of Pontiac, MI in connection with the fatal car accident that killed a 34-year-old-man and severely injured his 27-year-old female passenger.

On May 5, 2018 at approximately 12:40 a.m., the male victim drove his vehicle eastbound on West McNichols. It is alleged that as he was driving across the right lane, Richardson, disregarded the unlit traffic light, did not yield or stop, and collided with Mr. Palmer's vehicle, causing both vehicles to leave the roadway.

Medics arrived at the scene and transported the male victim and his passenger to a local hospital for treatment. Mr. Palmer was pronounced dead at the hospital; his passenger received treatment for her injuries.

Richardson has been charged with Operating While Intoxicated Causing Death, Reckless Driving Causing Death, Operating While Intoxicated Causing Serious Injury, Reckless Driving Causing Serious Injury, and Operating While Intoxicated*.

Richardson was arraigned on the warrant at 2:30 this afternoon before 36th District Court Magistrate Bari Blake Wood. The probable cause conference is scheduled for May 15, 2018 at 8:30 a.m.; the preliminary examination is scheduled for May 22, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge Lydia Nance Adams in 36th District Court. The defendant received a $30,000/10% bond.
