Detroit Woman Charged in Alcohol Involved Fatal Car Crash

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Taneka Monique Blanding, 35 (DOB: 06/25/1982) of Detroit, in connection with an alcohol related fatal car crash that killed two women. On May 5, 2018 at 10:00 p.m., it is alleged that Blanding was driving her car at a high rate of speed at Greenfield and Puritan Streets in Detroit. Blanding crashed into a car driven by a 35-year-old woman with a 28-year-old woman in the front passenger seat. The two victims, both Detroit residents, were taken to a local hospital where they later succumbed to their injuries.

The defendant has been charged with two counts each of Second Degree Murder, Operating While Under the Influence Causing Death, Reckless Driving-Death Resulting. She is also charged with one count each of Operating While Under the Influence of Intoxicants, Operating a Motor Vehicle with a High Blood Alcohol Level, and Driver- Open Intoxicant in a Motor Vehicle*.

Blanding was arraigned on the warrant at 2:30 p.m. this afternoon before 36th District Court Magistrate Millicent Sherman. The probable cause conference is scheduled for May 18, 2018 at 8:30 a.m.; the preliminary examination is scheduled for May 22, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. Both hearings are before Judge Lydia Nance Adams in 36th District Court. The defendant was remanded to jail.
