Pontiac Man Charged in Fatal Car Crash

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Jarod Najee Richardson, 29, (DOB: 06/08/1988), of Pontiac, MI in connection with the fatal car accident that killed a 34-year-old-man and severely injured his 27-year-old female passenger.

On May 5, 2018 at approximately 12:40 a.m., the male victim drove his vehicle eastbound on West McNichols. It is alleged that as he was driving across the right lane, Richardson, disregarded the unlit traffic light, did not yield or stop, and collided with Mr. Palmer's vehicle, causing both vehicles to leave the roadway.

Medics arrived at the scene and transported the male victim and his passenger to a local hospital for treatment. Mr. Palmer was pronounced dead at the hospital; his passenger received treatment for her injuries. Richardson has been charged with Operating While Intoxicated Causing Death, Reckless Driving Causing Death, Operating While Intoxicated Causing Serious Injury, Reckless Driving Causing Serious Injury, and Operating While Intoxicated*.

Richardson was arraigned on the warrant at 2:30 this afternoon before 36th District Court Magistrate Bari Blake Wood. The probable cause conference is scheduled for May 15, 2018 at 8:30 a.m.; the preliminary examination is scheduled for May 22, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge Lydia Nance Adams in 36th District Court. The defendant received a $30,000/10% bond.

Detroit Woman Charged in Alcohol Involved Fatal Car Crash

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Taneka M. Blanding, 35 (DOB: 06/25/1982) of Detroit in connection with an alcohol related fatal car crash that killed two women. On May 5, 2018 at 10:00 p.m., it is alleged that Blanding was driving her cat at a high rate of speed at Greenfield and Puritan in Detroit. Blanding crashed into a car driven by a 35-year-old woman with a 28-year-old woman in the front passenger seat. The two victims, both Detroit residents, were taken to a local hospital where they later succumbed to their injuries.

The defendant has been charged with two counts each of Second Degree Murder, Operating While Under the Influence Causing Death, Reckless Driving-Death Resulting. She is also charged with one count each of Operating While Under the Influence of Intoxicants, Operating a Motor Vehicle with a High Blood Alcohol Level, and Driver - Open Intoxicant in a Motor Vehicle*.

Blanding was arraigned on the warrant at 2:30 this afternoon before 36th District Court Magistrate Millicent Sherman. The probable cause conference is scheduled for May 18, 2018 at 8:30 a.m.; the preliminary examination is scheduled for May 22, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. Both hearings are before Judge Lydia Nance Adams in 36th District Court. T he defendant was remanded to jail.

Non-fatal Shooting of Three-Year-Old in 5900 block of Marcus in Detroit - WCPO has received a warrant request from the Detroit Police Department that is currently being reviewed. A charging decision and arraignment will not occur today.

Detroit Father Charged in Toddler Son's Shooting

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Melvin Cooley Cline, III, 34 (DOB: 11/04/1983), of Detroit, in connection with the shooting of his three-year-old son, Melvin Cooley Cline, IV. On May 8, 2018 at approximately 10:00 a.m., at a residence in the 5900 block of Marcus in Detroit, it is alleged that during an argument between Cline and his child's mother, the toddler picked up a firearm in the living room. The weapon discharged, striking the child. The child was privately conveyed to a local hospital for emergency treatment.

Investigation by Detroit Police officers led to the arrest of Cline. It is alleged that the defendant left a loaded firearm accessible to his son while in his care and a resident of his household. It is further alleged that Cline failed to provide a safe environment for his son.

Cline has been charged with Child Abuse - Second Degree, Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Felony Firearm*. Cline was arraigned this afternoon before 36th District Court Magistrate Jeffrey Kleparek. T he probable cause conference is scheduled for May 17, 2018 at 8:30 a.m.; the preliminary examination is scheduled for May 22, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. Both hearings are before Judge William McConico in 36th District Court. The defendant received a $100,000 cash/surety bond.
