Detroit Man Charged in Longview/Dickerson Fatal Crash

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Antwaune Jauviele Daniels, 25, (DOB: 08/16/1993), of Detroit, in connection with the fatal car crash that killed Robert Darnell Anderson, age 60.

On September 25, 2018 at approximately 2:40 p.m., Detroit police officers on patrol observed the defendant disregard a stop sign while making a left turn from Roseberry Avenue onto Longview Street in Detroit. The officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop and, it is alleged, the defendant continued traveling eastbound on Longview Street at a high rate of speed. It is also alleged the defendant disregarded a second stop sign at Dickerson, and struck a vehicle traveling northbound on Dickerson. It is further alleged that the defendant collided with two more vehicles, one parked and the other traveling west on Longview. It is also alleged the defendant attempted to leave the scene of the accident, but was apprehended and placed under arrest.

Medics arrived at the scene and transported the two victims to a local hospital for treatment. Mr. Anderson was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Daniels has been charged with one count of Reckless Driving Causing Death and one count of Operating With License Suspended Causing Death.* He was arraigned on September 28, 2018 in 36th District Court before Magistrate Laura Echartea. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for October 11, 2018 at 8:30 a.m.; the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for October 17, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. Both hearings are before Judge Ronald Giles in 36th District Court. The defendant received a $75,000/10% bond.

*The charges are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
