Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy has charged Jacob Rodgers, 26 (DOB: 1/3/90) and Kimberly Richardson, 36 (DOB: 1/21/80), both of Detroit, in connection with the assault of a Detroit male (age unknown) that is alleged to have begun over a dispute over chili. On January 7, 2016 at 6:15 a.m. at a house in the 19200 block of St. Mary Street, it is alleged that Rodgers got into an argument with the male visitor because he stirred chili and turned down the heat to keep it from burning. Rodgers demanded the man's wallet and when he refused, Rogers beat and stabbed the man once in the thigh with a knife. While Rodgers was assaulting the male victim, he was aided by Richardson, who beat the victim and kicked him in the groin. The victim was able to flee from the house and flag down nearby Detroit police officers. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Rodgers has been charged with Unarmed Robbery, Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm, Felonious Assault, Aggravated Assault and Battery. Richardson has been charged with Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm, Felonious Assault and Aggravated Assault and Battery. The defendants were arraigned yesterday and each received bonds of $7,500/10%. Their probable cause hearing date is February 1, 2016 at 8:30 a.m., and their preliminary examination date is February 8, 2016 at 9:00 a.m., both before Judge Shannon Holmes in 36th District Court.
