Jonathan David Cole - Belleville defendant charged in the hit-and-run pedestrian car crash that killed Detroit Police Officer Fadi Shukur, 30. On August 31, 2018, Cole had a preliminary examination before Judge Kenneth King for the charges: Murder Second Degree; Reckless Driving Causing Death; and Failure to Stop at the Scene of an Accident When at Fault Resulting in Death. At the conclusion of the hearing Judge King bound over on Reckless Driving Causing Death, and Failure to Stop at the Scene of an Accident. He dismissed the Second Degree Murder charge finding that the only aggravating factor presented in the case was speed, and concluded there was insufficient evidence to bond over on Second Degree Murder. The arraignment on the information will be held on September 7, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. WCPO will file a motion in the Wayne County Third Circuit Court Criminal Division seeking reinstatement of the Second Degree Murder charge.

Candice Diaz - Sumpter Township defendant charged in connection with the murder of her four-year-old daughter Gabrielle Barrett. Her preliminary examination was held today and she was bound over on Felony Murder, Second Degree Murder, Child Abuse First Degree, Torture, Conspiracy to Commit Child Abuse First Degree and Conspiracy to Commit Child Abuse Second Degree. The arraignment on the information is on September 11, 2018, at 9:00 a.m. Defendant Brad Fields will have will have a pre-trial conference on the same day before Judge Vonda Evans at 9:00 a.m.

Desmond Lamont Robinson - Defendant charged in connection with the fatal hit and run car crash that killed off-duty Wayne County Sheriff Sgt. Lee Smith. The Arraignment on the Information that was is scheduled for September 6, 2018 has been adjourned until Monday, September 10, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. before Judge James Chylinski.

Candice Diaz - Sumpter Township defendant charged in connection with the murder of her four-year-old daughter Gabrielle Barrett. Her preliminary examination was held today and she was bound over on Felony Murder, Second Degree Murder, Child Abuse First Degree, Torture, Conspiracy to Commit Child Abuse First Degree and Conspiracy to Commit Child Abuse Second Degree. Today the court has informed WCPO that the arraignment on the information for Defendant Diaz will occur on Friday, September 7, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. before Judge Vonda Evans. Defendant Fields will also have his pre-trial conference tomorrow before Judge Vonda Evans at 9:00 a.m. No reason was given for the date change from September 11, 2018.

Ollante Young - Father charged in connection with a fatal go-kart crash that killed his four-year-old daughter and injured his five-year-old daughter. Today Young had his Probable Cause Conference and his Preliminary Examination is was changed from September 11, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. to September 24, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. before Judge Deborah Lewis Langston.

Menayetta Yeager - Defendant charged in connection with the August 27, 2017 shooting of her ex-boyfriend, Jonte Maurice-Louis Brooks at a gas station at Mack and Van Dyke in Detroit. On August 17, 2018 a jury found the defendant guilty as charged. Today Yeager was sentenced before Judge Kevin Cox to life without parole on the First Degree Murder charge, and two years to consecutive on the Felony Firearm charge.

Timothy Leach and Frederick Person - Defendants charged in connection with the assault on Michael Karpovich at Ottava Via restaurant. At the request of the defense the Preliminary Examination before Judge Deborah Lewis Langston has been adjourned until September 14, 2018 at 9:00 a.m.

Former Riverview Fire Officials Charged in Time Card Scheme

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged former Riverview Fire Captain Donald Meyer, 64, (DOB: 04/05/1954), and former Fire Lieutenant Scott Brighton, 42, (DOB: 02/16/1976), in connection with a time card fraud scheme that occurred over multiple years.

It is alleged that from December 20, 2013 through March 3, 2018, that Meyer submitted falsified time cards for $20,307 in unearned wages. It is also alleged that from December 20, 2013 through March 3, 2018, that Brighton submitted falsified time cards for $27,402 in unearned wages. An internal time card audit conducted by a private firm hired by the City of Riverview revealed that Meyer and Brighton inflated the hours on their time cards, falsely claiming they were working. The investigation of the case was conducted by the Michigan State Police Department. On August 23, 2018 Meyer and Brighton were terminated from their employment with the Riverview Fire Department.

Donald Meyer and Scott Brighton have each been charged with one count of Larceny by False Pretenses - $20,000 to $50,000, a 15 year felony, and one count of Receiving and Concealing Stolen Property Over $20,000, a 10 year felony.*

Meyer and Brighton were arraigned today in 27th District Court and both received $20,000 personal bonds and an order to have no contact with witnesses in the case. Their Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for September 20, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for September 27, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. Both hearings are before 27th District Court Judge Randy Kalmbach.

*The charges are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
