Programs and Services

Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention

Provides primary prevention education services and case management services to lead burdened children to prevent and/or eliminate lead absorption and lead poisoning as a result of environmental exposure.

Children Special Health Care Services

Provides medical, social, psychological, and financial assistance to families with children with special health needs. This includes assessment, referral for diagnostic evaluation and specialty clinics, care coordination, outreach and advocacy.

Communicable Disease Control and Surveillance

Provides coordination of disease reporting, initiation of individual disease investigation and follow-up, and outbreak investigation and control measures.

Community Health Assessment

Provides for the regular and systematic collection, surveillance and analysis of statistics on health system and health status, community health needs and resources, environmental quality and the interrelationships between the environment and human health. This information is provided to community stakeholders to achieve public awareness, develop interventions to respond to health risks, disease, injury and epidemics.

Community Health Promotion

Provides Cardiovascular Risk Screening to high-risk populations and community health promotion activities that address health risks of the population.

Dental

Provides preventive treatment and education services, for eligible children and adults. A dental health fluoride program is offered through the schools.

Early On

Provides coordination of social, health and educational services that will promote the development of infants and toddlers with special needs.

Hearing and Vision

Provides hearing and vision screening in the schools and referral services for preschool and school-aged children.

HIV Counseling and Testing

Provides an anonymous and confidential system for individuals to obtain HIV counseling and testing services.

Immunizations

Provides immunizations for infants, children, and adults with special emphasis on the pediatric population, including efforts to increase the immunization coverage levels of children birth to three years of age.

Maternal Child Outreach, Enrollment and Coordination

Provides outreach to uninsured pregnant women and families with children to inform them of available health insurance coverage, assistance with enrollment, accessing care, keeping health care appointments, engaging community partners to assist in these efforts and coordinating community outreach and enrollment efforts to assure early and regular health care services to this population.

Maternal Infant Health Advocacy Services

Provides services to high risk, low income pregnant women and infants to get them into care and assure that health care services are maintained. This program addresses the social, health, economic and personal well being of pregnant women and infants.

Maternal and Infant Support Services

Provides non-medical services consisting of information, education, counseling and referral in the areas of health behaviors and practices, nutrition and social work; transportation; and case management to reduce infant mortality and morbidity.

School Immunizations

Provides a monitoring system for children's immunization records for schools and determines the exclusion from school of children who are underimmunized, in accordance with the law. Vaccine requirements, information and enforcement activities for school enterers are provided.

Sexually Transmitted Disease

Provides reporting, surveillance, clinical services, laboratory services, sexual partner notification and education services to prevent and control sexually transmitted diseases.

Smoking Reduction Program

Provides for the facilitation of the Wayne County Smoking and Tobacco Intervention Coalition. Coalition activities are targeted at tobacco reduction issues and events.

Summer Food Program

Provides free lunches to Wayne County children in low-income areas.

Tuberculosis Control

Provides reporting, surveillance, medical inpatient and outpatient treatment of tuberculosis cases and their contacts, Direct Observed Therapy, contact investigation and information and education.

Vaccine Distribution

Distribution of child and adult vaccines to Wayne County Department of Public Health Centers and participating Vaccine for Children private providers.

WIC Food Program

Provides supplemental food coupons, nutrition counseling and education for pregnant and breast-feeding women and their children 0 - 5 years who qualify.
