:: The Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport and Willow Run Airport, both operated by the Wayne County Airport Authorities, provide important links across the county and around the world, including passenger and cargo service to Europe, Asia, and Mexico.

Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport moved more then 32.7 million passengers in 2003 and 35.2 million in 2004. It has six runways and a broad spectrum of major airlines, as well as commuter and cargo lines.

The 2002 opening of the 97-gate Edward H. McNamara Terminal ushered in a new era for Detroit Metro. The tow-million-square foot terminal offers travelers state-of-the-art facilities and amenities ranging from children’s play areas to an 11,500-space parking garage and wireless Internet (Wi-Fi) service. The terminal, which serves as a hub for Northwest Airlines, also features a pair of express trains designed to carry up to 4,000 passengers per hour. In addition to Northwest, Detroit Metro is served by all major U.S. commercial airlines.

Having completed the McNamara Terminal and invested more than $2 billion in recent airport improvements, the Wayne county Airport Authority is planning the North Terminal Redevelopment Project. This 29-gate terminal complex which could be completed as early as 2008, will replace the airport’s older Davey & Smith terminal complex. But travelers are just part of the air transportation story. Detroit Metro processes 233,645 tons of cargo annually.

Willow Run Airport is located in Van Buren Township and is seven miles west of Detroit Metropolitan Airport and is a convenient option serving air cargo, corporate, and general aviation clients. Willow Run offers five runways 24-hour FAA Tower and U.S. Customs operations, to provide ease access for its uses. Willow Run Airport has over 100,000 operations per year and processes approximately 100,000 tons of cargo, making Willow Run the third largest airport in the state of Michigan.

Detroit City Airport is owned and operated by the City of Detroit and is home to business jets and private planes, and posts an average of 225 corporate and private operations daily. City Airport officials have planned $2 million in improvements, including new hangers and a new conference center, with an eye toward expanding its service to the region.
