GREETINGS!
Wayne County is pleased to once again participate in the annual Detroit Regional Chamber Leadership Conference. In addition to the core services that Wayne County delivers to its 43 communities, we are focused on major initiatives that will be the catalyst for development, jobs creation and long-term growth. Wayne County has IT: Vision. Direction. Location.
Now’s the time to put IT all in motion.

Biotech will create a new industry of opportunity bringing new jobs, economic growth and stability. Wayne County has signed a letter of understanding with Michigan State University and Diversified Natural Products to support a bio-refinery and a research and development facility in the county. The bio-refinery can produce ethanol, bio-diesel and a chemical substitute for petroleum in the production of plastics. : : continue : :
A proposed Land Bank would return vacant, abandoned or tax-delinquent, government-owned properties to productive use. An accompanying program, TURBO (Transforming Underutilized Residential and Business Opportunities), would give aggressive tax breaks to residents and businesses that invest in Wayne County. : : continue : :

In today’s global economy, the competitive advantage is no longer just location, location, location, but speed, speed, speed. Executive Ficano supports the completion of a $100-million study to design a mass transit line to run from Detroit to Ann Arbor with connecting service to Detroit Metro Airport. A rail system and airport development are a winning combination. : : continue : :

Wayne County is creating business parks, logistical parks, industrial parks and distribution facilities centered around an airport-driven community environment. The county has the assets for a state-of-the-art Airport City – 25,000 acres of undeveloped property, an international gateway airport, a major cargo airport and an underutilized infrastructure. : : continue : :

With the Detroit Regional Chamber, Executive Ficano led a trade mission to China last October that produced results. A Chinese company has acquired a 480,000-square-foot facility in Canton Township. Several local companies plan to open offices in China. Wayne County and two Chinese cities have created partnership agreements with advisory boards. Thinking globally can bring investments locally. : : continue : :
