major provider of sewer and water service to the communities
of Wayne County is the Detroit Water and Sewer Department [DWSD].
Overall, the DWSD has a system capacity of 1,700 million gallons
per day [MGD]. Actual usage is approximately 638 MGD. Several
other communities operate municipal wells or lake water intake
structures and water treatment facilities, in addition to or
in place of water service by Detroit Water and Sewer Department.
Grosse Pointe Farms has a system capacity of 12 MGD, with actual
usage running at approximately 3.2 MGD. The Highland Park system
can handle up to 20-22 MGD, with a current usage rate of 5 MGD.
Finally, Wyandotte's facility has a capacity of 16 MGD and a
current usage of 6 MGD.
