::  The per capita income for all Wayne County residents was $20,058 in 2000, which is 93 percent of the national average per capita income of $21,587. Each other county in the region has a per capita income that is higher than the national average. Furthermore, each county’s [including Wayne] per capita income rose as a percentage of the national average between 1990 and 2000, providing further evidence of an economic rebound in the region.

:: appendix 6 :: shows the per capita income for each county in the region.

::  However, the per capita income was greatly varied among the 43 communities in the County, from a low of 56 percent of the national average in Highland Park, up to 323 percent in Grosse Pointe Shores.

::  Per capita income is one of the two criteria used to determine if a community is eligible for EDA funding. In order to qualify, a community must have an income that is less than 80% of the U.S. average. Based on this criteria, six communities are EDA eligible: Detroit, Ecorse, Hamtramck, Highland Park, Inkster and River Rouge.

:: appendix 7 :: shows the per capita income for each community.
