About Wayne County

Communities » City of Plymouth

The City of Plymouth is located in the Northwest portion of the county just south of Northville Township. Originally a crossroad of Indian trails, it became a trading center for the surrounding area.

With the arrival of modern transportation modes, population and industry both grew. Today, with both Interstate 96 and 275 Freeways completed, industrial growth has proceeded to develop westward along the M-14 corridor which extends to Ann Arbor.

The C&O Railroad has lines running both north-south and parallel to M-14.

The City remains the focus of local commercial activities with strip development along Ann Arbor Road, Ann Arbor Trail, and Main Street.
