September 25, 2009 - Preliminary Examination : The preliminary examination of adult-designated juvenile defendant Demarco Harris was held in front of Judge Leslie Kim Smith. The defendant was referred for competency and criminal responsibility. He was remanded and is currently held in the Juvenile Detention Facility. His next court date will be on September 25, 2009 at 9:00 a.m. in front of Judge Smith.

October 11 – 17, 2009 : Insurance Fraud Prevention Week. The Insurance Institute of Michigan states that insurance fraud costs Michigan residents an additional $200-$300 each year in additional insurance premiums.


December 4, 2009 Kenneth Lang, Dearborn has been scheduled for a competency evaluation in connection with his hoarding of over 200 Chihuahuas.

Congratulation to Clerical Specialist Diane Onnie for winning First Place in the King Arthur Flour Baking Contest at the 2009 Michigan State Fair. All entries used the same Parmesan Batter Bread recipe. Judging was based on the following: favor 50 points, overall appearance 25 points and texture 25 points. She also won Honorable Mention for her Rum Raisin Shortbread.


The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office is pleased to offer the Change the Culture of Violence Criminal Justice Tour to Wayne County civic groups and/or students. The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office softball team is now four time Detroit Legal Softball Champions! Congratulations to the team!


The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office is proud to present the Alexis Goggins Everyday Hero Award to Norris Elkins. Mr. Elkins was a witness to a homicide. He boxed in the defendant’s vehicle and testified at the trial. The office also presented five 2009 Witness Awards to Keith Kingery, Billy Baker, Shirley Snyder and Rochell Copeland in recognition of the sacrifice it takes to appear as a witness in a criminal trial. The awards were presented at the last session of the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office Citizens Academy. Our congratulations and thanks to all of the awardees!
