Wayne County Clerk

Administration

Provides overall department management and directions. Set general and quality control standards. Monitor and evaluates performances against set standards and objectives, makes any corrective action where necessary.

The Elections Division

Responsible for coordinating and administering all Federal, State, County and cross-boundary school district elections conducted in Wayne County under the jurisdiction of the Wayne County Clerk. The Elections Department is also responsible for overseeing the printing and distribution of election ballots and conducting national, state, and county elections. The canvass of votes in state, county, school, and some city and township elections is under the jurisdiction of the County Clerk. Also responsible for monitoring all County, local and school board candidate compliance with all filing requirements under the Michigan Campaign Finance Act, PA 388 of 1976. This Division serves as an administrative officer to the County Election Commission, County Board of Canvassers and the County Apportionment Commission. Wayne County’s Elections Officials are:

The General Office

The Wayne County Clerk serves as the general keeper of official records. The General Office records all births and deaths in Wayne County, with the exception of the City of Detroit. Also accepts applications for and records marriages, concealed weapons permits, notary commissions, assumed names and co-partnerships.

The Court Services Division

The Wayne County Clerk is the Clerk of the Third Judicial Circuit Court. The Court Services Division accepts, reviews and processes Civil Court Cases in excess of $25,000, as well as Family and Divorce cases. In addition, the Court Services Division also assists citizens in the preparation and execution of Personal Protection Orders.

The Fiscal Division

The Wayne County Clerk serves as the Fiduciary agent of the Third Judicial Circuit Court. The Fiscal Unit is responsible for statutorily mandated duties that include receipt, maintenance and disbursement of all funds related to Civil, Criminal and Juvenile court cases, vital records, etc., as well as the preparation and administration of departmental budgets and grants

The Records Division

The Records Division is responsible for the receipt, filing and maintenance of Circuit Court Cases in soft (Microfilm) and hard copy. The Wayne County Clerk is also charged with establishing and maintaining a central archival records system for the non-active records of all county departments.
