Death Certificates
The Death Division of the County Clerk's office maintains the death certificates for cities in
Wayne County excluding Detroit.
Deaths taking place within the City Limits of Detroit are recorded by the City of Detroit Health Department.
Certified copies of death certificates may be obtained in person, online or
by forwarding a written request to the County Clerk's Office at :

Requests for Death Certificates must include the following information:
- Full Name at Death
- City Of Death
- Date of Death
Death certificates are public records and may be obtained by anyone. All requests
must be written in letter form.
The fees for obtaining copies of death certificates are $22.00 for a certified copy
and $7.00 for additional certified copies of the same record. They are made payable
to Wayne County Clerk by money order, cashier's check, or certified check [by mail]
and by cash [in person].
