Department of Environment

Hotline Information

Wayne County Department of Environment is proud to offer the 24-Hour Environmental Hotline providing you more access to a wide variety of environmental services 7 days a week.

During Business Hours: You will receive prompt follow-up to your questions or concerns from DOE staff.

After Business Hours: If your call is of an urgent nature, it will be promptly forwarded to our staff on-call. All other calls will be responded to on the next business day.

The following are examples of some issues regulated by the environmental programs within the Department of Environment:

  • Drain maintenance, sewer maintenance, and industrial sewage discharges.
  • Landfill, illegal dumping, soil runoff from construction sites and other solid waste related complaints.
  • Water pollution and other water quality related complaints

NOTE: If you have an air quality complaint, please call the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality - Air Quality Division (MDEQ-AQD) at 313-456-4700. Please note that this number is not a 24-hour number. If you experience an emergency air quality complaint, you may contact the MDEQ-Pollution Emergency Alert System’s 24-Hour number at 1-800-292-4706.

WCDOE will however, continue to assist citizens with their air quality complaints. These complaints will be forwarded to MDEQ-AQD. With the exception of air quality related complaints, WCDOE will continue to provide citizens with a wide variety of environmental services 7 days a week/24 hours a day.

CITY OF DETROIT RESIDENTS:
If you witness illegal dumping taking place, immediately contact the Detroit Police Department. Provide as much information possible, including the exact location of illegal dumping, make/model/license of the vehicle involved, and a good description of the illegal dumpers.

To report illegal dumping in the City of Detroit, you may call the 311 call center. Simply dial 311 from any land line in the City of Detroit or 313-224-4636 from a cellular phone.
