Wayne County Marks Continuing
Success in Environmental Protection
DETROIT - The Wayne County Department of Environment has filed
its annual storm water permit report with the State of Michigan – an 80-page report
detailing the extent of the County’s work during 2008 to protect and improve our
rivers, lakes, and streams for its 2 million residents.

Ficano to Award 49 Wayne
County "Green Schools"
Wayne County, MI - Wayne County CEO Robert A. Ficano will recognize
49 “Green Schools” at the University of Michigan-Dearborn’s Environmental Interpretive
Center on Wednesday, May 20 at 9:30 a.m. Wayne County’s Regional Education Service
Agency and the Detroit Zoological Society have also teamed up as "Green School"
supporters.

Commissioner Cox
to host annual park clean-up day
Wayne County Commissioner Laura Cox is hosting her 5th annual Park Clean-Up Day
on Saturday, May 9, 2009. The clean-up will take place at the Bennett Arboretum
and Northville Recreation area from 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon. Parking is located across
the street at Cass Benton.

Waste Collections
Wayne County’s Department of Environment is hosting three Computer/Computer Peripheral
Waste Collections for County residents. The collections are designed to accept unwanted
electronics (i.e. computer monitors, printers, scanners, keyboards, cell phones,
and fax machines) for recycling from residents.

County Hosts Household Hazardous Waste Collections
Wayne County’s Department of Environment has scheduled their next two Household
Hazardous Waste Collections for County residents. The collections are designed to
accept unwanted household chemicals for proper disposal and electronics (i.e. computer
monitors, printers, scanners, keyboards, cell phones, fax machines, and TVs) for
recycling from residents.

Guidelines and Precautions for Anyone Working in Inland Lakes and Streams
Projects to clear or move logs and debris in inland lakes and streams can expose
you to contaminated water or subject you to cuts and abrasions. Inland lakes and
streams can be contaminated by overflows from combined sewer discharges, non-point
source pollution, municipal or industrial discharges and leaks, etc. The risk of
contracting disease is likely greater during the two or three days immediately following

Twelve Communities Join
County Tire Collection Program
The Wayne County Department of Environment is providing its first-ever scrap tire
collection program in 12 communities.
