Saturday in the Park
A six mile section of Hines Drive is closed to automobiles from Outer Drive Road going west to Ann Arbor Trail, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. every Saturday from May 1 through September 25 for walking, cycling, or inline skating. Parking is available at the Nankin Mills Picnic Area [Hines Drive and Ann Arbor Trail].
Chandler Park Family Aquatic Center
EXPERIENCE WHAT SUMMER IS REALLY LIKE IN DETROIT! Summer fun is closer than you
think at Wayne County’s Chandler Park Family Aquatic Center, “Splish
Splash Land.” Attractions normally found at amusement parks hours away are
right around the corner. Cool off on the two giant water slides full of exciting
twists and turns. Enjoy family time with the children as they experience their own
aquatic play area. Splash into summer fun while riding waves in the wave pool. (Closed for Labor Day)

Fall and Winter: Check Nankin Mills Interpretive Center and Crosswinds Marsh Family Programs for nature walks and fall color tours within Wayne County Parks. You may want to drive or bike down Hines Drive and be dazzled by the spectacular red and gold colored leaves that line the parkway each fall. When the winter season blankets the region in snow be sure to make the most of it by enjoying winter sports at Wayne County Parks. |
Wayne County LightFest 2010
November 18, 2009 - December 30, 2010 (Closed December 25)
No nighttime spectacle can compare to Wayne County LightFest. With 4 1/2 miles of giant animated displays and nearly a million lights along Hines Drive, it's the Midwest's largest Holiday Light Show. Drive through 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. daily, November 18 - December 30, 2009 [closed Christmas Day]. Enter at Hines Drive and Merriman, 2 1/2 miles south of I-96 in Westland. A minimum of $5 per car helps keep LightFest operating. For more info call: 734-261-1990.
Outdoor Ice Skating:
[Weather permitting] Ice rinks will be maintained at the following location: Elizabeth Park in Trenton. No charge.
Sledding:
The Cass Benton Area of Hines Park offers the best hills for sledding. These rolling hills start at Sheldon Road in the City of Northville following the Rouge River Valley to Six Mile Road in Northville Township. Enhancements made to this area from the millage include handrail installations and improved parking. Sledding is also available along Hines Drive near Inkster Road and at Middlebelt Hill [Hines Drive between Merriman and Inkster Roads].
